About Cameroon Mission Work

Saving Souls, Strengthening the Saved and Serving Society

Cameroon Mission Work (CA.M.WORK) is a ministry opportunity spearheaded by Louis and Linda Bassay after they returned to Cameroon in summer 2018. The work is devoted to the Lord with the intent of saving souls, strengthening the saved and serving the society. This is a continuation of what has long been their passion. It is their intention to share with others what CAMWORK is all about hoping and praying to catch the attention of godly men and women interested in mission work.

This work is overseen by the Cloverdale Church of Christ in Searcy AR, in collaboration with the Bonaberi Church of Christ in Cameroon. It is a full-time commitment for Both Louis and Linda and covers a wide range of activities based on the nature of work in Cameroon and the multiple training and awareness they are receiving from Harding University.

This covers but not limited to: i) Church planting and the strengthening of existing congregations, ii) writing and implementation of Sunday school curriculum, iii) a radio/video ministry which is an outstanding way to make use of technology in the preaching and spreading of the word, iv) leadership training seminars (this include training youth for the work of ministry), v) Cameroon Connection projects (help to the community, VBS, short term mission, scholarships and so on). This endeavor sometimes involves both native preachers and visiting missionaries/students from the US.

  • Louis and Linda returned to Cameroon in the summer of 2018 blessed to be tools in the hands of God to enhance the growth of the church in Cameroon in whatever capacity He desires.  However, the starting point of their ministry has focused on:
  • Strengthening existing congregations through preaching and teaching. Louis intends to travel extensively within the country, preaching and teaching in existing congregations.  Linda will, together with a women’s ministry called the Village Seminar, be working with women as she shares with them some effective ways of teaching children using the Noble Age curriculum.
  • Leadership Training Seminars: Many preachers and church leaders are part-time ministers of the church. Short seminars are the ideal training format to allow them to foster training without compromising their main sources of livelihood.
  • Working with youth in the country as a whole: To invest in the future of the church is to work with the youth. This is a continuation of what Louis and Linda were involved in before coming to the USA, developing programs and schedules to foster fellowship and spiritual development opportunities for the youth. Harding University is blessed with a program called the “Kerusso Experience” whose goal is to train and encourage teen boys in the skill of preaching. Louis plans to replicate the program, hoping to build a partnership with Harding in this endeavor.
  • Work with the existing preacher training schools in the country to help develop a more comprehensive curriculum. Having now lived and worked with various congregations in the USA and in Cameroon, and having been trained at CAMT and the Benin Bible Training Center, and from experience working with graduates of the Cameroon preaching schools, Louis believes the preaching training schools in Cameroon can design a much more meaningful and effective curriculum. As such Louis hopes to contribute towards the achievement of this objective.
  • They hope to:
  • Continue to promote children’s classes in the country through new curriculum, teaching techniques, village seminars and a video ministry. The intent of the video ministry is to record songs and lessons, then share them among congregations: DVD, YouTube, Flash drive, etc.
  • Reachout to the community through VBS. Organize VBS in different locations of the country during the months of July and August involving kids of Christians and non-christians. A closing ceremony will be programed at the end of each session where parents will be invited. Kids will stage Bible story dramas, an exhortation given by the preacher, tracts and WBS lessons distributed. We also plan to share some school reopening requirements as gifts to kids who will take part in this program.
  • Focus on church planting in the French part of Cameroon. In the past, Louis and Linda were part of a ministry called Soul Saving Ministry whose mission was to establish new congregations within the country. That effort did establish many congregations over the years. Unfortunately due to some financial constraints this ministry failed to continue or to place preachers in these new congregations. Louis and Linda hope to renew this initiative.
  • Develop a video ministry: People are becoming more and more technology oriented, in Africa as well. A sermon preached in the pulpit can be heard once but if captured by a video camera, it can be heard again and again. ‘Sermons and lessons acted as a play can appeal to even broader audiences and be watched again and again’.
  • Work with in-country preachers who are unable to receive sufficient financial support to continue preaching, while working with native resources, aiming for self supporting congregations in the future as Cameroon’s economic conditions improve. This is NOT included in the working funds.
  • Participate in Cameroon Connection Projects (CCP). CCP is an initiative spearheaded by the Laurel Church of Christ in Laurel, Maryland, USA. The goal of this project is to dedicate special funds to reach out to people (particularly brethren) in Cameroon with unsatisfied physical needs (food, clothing, medical procedures, etc.) Louis plans to continue his partnership with Laurel as the “man on the ground” in Cameroon, and even help expand this work to areas such as:
    • Short term medical missions.
    • Short term missions: Evangelism, VBS, working with orphanages, community humanitarian efforts, etc.
    • Scholarship funds for the underprivileged and families of deceased preachers. Over the years, we have seen talented kids who could not further their education due to financial constraints (unable to afford school fees). The situation is even worse for preacher’s kids as they drop out of school after their father dies. We hope for a combined effort -Cameroon and US resources.
    • Bringing potable water to communities in need.
    • Shipping used goods such as medical equipment, clothing, etc., from the US to Cameroon
    • Partnership in erecting decent places of worship. This is not about building new church buildings, but about partnering with those churches already attempting to do so, but stuck at some level in their endeavors, due to financial constraints.
All of the ministries mentioned above, and future potential ministries, cannot be accomplished by Louis and Linda alone, but are in partnership with both US and Cameroon resources - brothers and sisters with a heart for the work of the church in Cameroon.
